Eisteddfod y Garreg Las 2026 — Experience Wales’s Greatest Cultural Festival

Dates: 1–8 August 2026 | Location: Llantwd, North Pembrokeshire

Something extraordinary is coming to Pembrokeshire this summer — and if you’ve never experienced the National Eisteddfod of Wales, 2026 is the year to change that.

For one glorious week, the green fields of north Pembrokeshire will transform into the heart of Welsh culture. The National Eisteddfod — known this year as Eisteddfod y Garreg Las (Festival of the Blue Stone), named after the region’s iconic local bluestone — arrives in Llantwd from 1st to 8th August 2026. This isn’t just a festival, it’s a celebration of a living culture nearly a thousand years in the making.

What Is the National Eisteddfod?

The National Eisteddfod is Wales’s largest cultural festival and is Europe’s largest music and poetry festival. Welcoming over 160,000 visitors every year. It is a week-long showcase of music, poetry, literature, dance, visual arts, and performance — and this year carries extra weight: 2026 marks the 850th anniversary of the very first recorded Eisteddfod, held in 1176 in nearby Cardigan.

To have it back in Pembrokeshire, this close to where it all began, is genuinely special.

At the heart of the festival is Y Maes — the festival field — a colourful, buzzing village in its own right, filled with stages, pavilions, exhibitions, food, craft stalls, and workshops. The atmosphere is unlike anything else in Wales.

What’s On: A Festival of World-Class Culture

The Pavilion

The centrepiece of every Eisteddfod is the 1,700-seat main Pavilion — the stage where the finest Welsh performers, poets, and musicians compete for the most prestigious prizes in Welsh culture. Watching a bardic ceremony or a choral competition here is a truly spine-tingling experience.

Competitions span everything from solo singers and large choirs to acting, dancing, poetry recital, and prose writing— all performed in Welsh, with an atmosphere that rivals any major concert venue.

Live Music and Concerts

Each evening the Maes comes alive with concerts and performances from some of Wales’s biggest names. Whether you love folk, classical, pop, or something you’ve never heard before, the Eisteddfod’s music programme never disappoints.

Visual Arts and Literature

Galleries and exhibition spaces dot the Maes, showcasing the best of contemporary Welsh art and design. The literary programme brings authors, thinkers, and storytellers together for talks, readings, and debates that run throughout the week.

Workshops and Experiences

From crafts to creative writing, there are dozens of hands-on sessions across the week for curious minds of all ages.

Make a Week of It — Stay at Bonville’s Court Country Park

Pembrokeshire in August is already one of the finest places to be in the whole of the UK. Pair a visit to the Eisteddfod with a stay at Bonville’s Court Country Park in Saundersfoot, and you have the makings of an unforgettable summer holiday.

Our park sits in the tranquil Pembrokeshire countryside, just a 10-minute walk from the beaches and harbour of Saundersfoot, and only five minutes from the historic walled town of Tenby. You’ll have access to some of Pembrokeshire’s most stunning coastline, the best of south Pembrokeshire’s pubs, restaurants, and attractions — and a comfortable, peaceful base to come home to each evening.

Later wind down in our luxurious spa, here you’ll find a steam room, traditional Finnish sauna, and sunken spa pool — each designed to help your body release tension and your mind find stillness. Whether you prefer the warm weightlessness of the spa pool or the dry heat of the sauna, these spaces offer a gentle escape from daily stresses.

Spend a day or two at the Eisteddfod, then spend the rest of your week exploring Pembrokeshire at your own pace. It really is the perfect combination.
